The reason Manchester United have been so successful over the years has been their ability to produce team after team at the highest level. It would probably be fair to state that Sir Alex Ferguson has had at least four separate teams in his spell at United and each has won titles. When the likes of Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic have called it a day, United will remain successful due to their investment in youth. This is how they may look in five years time.
GK – David de Gea
At 21, United’s new goalkeeper is already being tipped as the future Spanish number one.
DR- Rafael
The young Brazilian was plagued by injuries this season but has shown promise beyond his tender years. When fit, is currently the first choice right back.
DC – Smalling
Has deputised for Ferdinand impressively this season when called upon, has a cool head under pressure and will get better with age.
DC – Jones
United seem to have tied up a deal for the young defender who is being tipped as a future England captain. Impressive physique and quick across the turf, he will command the back-line in the way Vidic does at present.
DL – Fabio
Rafael’s twin brother has played the majority of the season at right-back and started the champions league final. He is predominantly left-sided however and will be sure to replace Evra in the years to come.
RM – Valencia
At 25 years of age, Valencia has the physique and fitness to continue at the highest level for at least the next five years.
CM – Morrison
Ravel Morrison is extremely highly thought of at Old Trafford and if he continues to develop he will find himself in the United team for many years to come.
CM – Anderson
Anderson has begun to show the kind of promise that he undoubtedly has and will continue to improve each season.
LM – Nani/Young
Nani is another one who has been much-improved this season and at just age 24 he certainly has a number of years left in him. He may fancy a move abroad in the future however and United should have Young on board this summer.
FC – Rooney
I would be extremely surprised if Rooney did not go on to captain United in the future, after his contract problems early in the season, he is now fully committed to the cause.
FC – Hernandez
At just 22, the young Mexican has had an amazing first season in English football and has his best years ahead of him.
