Turkey 0-2 Netherlands highlights: Turkey have to end their dream in reaching 2014 World Cup in Brazil after picking up a disappointing home defeat on their final group game fixture against group leader, Netherlands on Tuesday.
The home side needed a win to secure that runners up spot with Romania being their main contender, but instead of getting a bright start in that match, Turkey found themselves trailing after just eight minutes of play when Arjen Robben's tricky free kick ended up in the back of Volkan Demirel's net. That early strike gave a bigger pressure for the host in trying to break down their opponent as that half ended with a 1-0 lead for Netherlands.
After the break, Turkey's sloppy defending cost them once again as Dutch doubled their lead, this time from Galatasaray star, Wesley Sneijder, who found himself free inside the penalty area, before angling a fine shot to beat Demirel. Going 2-0 down was simply too much for Turkey, especially after knowing their rival, Romania, were winning in other game, this situation eventually made things easier for Netherlands to hold their two goals advantage.
