Struggling in their English Premier League campaign, Sunderland showing their worth in the third round of FA Cup when they bagged an important home win over Carlisle United. Playing in front of their loyal crowd, the Black Cats immediately took an attacking shape as they got in front on 34 minutes from Adam Johnson's effort. Unfortunately, that lead didn't last until half time break as Carlisle able to got back on level terms with a goal from Matty Robson on 43 minutes.
The home side regained their composure after the break and managed to get back in front thanks to an own goal from Sen O'Hanlon of 50 minutes. Sunderland eventually sealed their victory on that weekend battle with a late effort from El Hadji Ba right in the 90th minutes mark. That win was a precious one indeed as aside from confirming their passage into the fourth round of FA Cup but it could also provide a much needed morale boost for the Black Cats players to keep their relegation fight going.
