Southampton's ambition in getting into the top four seat of current English Premier League standings was halted this weekend when they only managed to snatch a point from their away fixture against Stoke City. The match was started in such bizarre fashion when Stoke's goal keeper, Asmir Begovic got his name in the score sheet after his goal kick clearance went into Southampton's net, due to an error from Saints' goalie, Artur Boruc.
That quick goal triggered a much more interesting contest as Saints pushing hard in search for an equalizing goal. It was not easy task though for Southampton in getting back into that tie as Stoke put on a solid display, not allowing their opponent to get much chances. However, just before half time break, the visitor finally got back on level terms as Jay Rodriguez netting home another odd looking goal which sealed the first 45 minutes in a 1-1 score line.
Despite both teams effort in chasing for that winning goal, neither managed to score again up till the final 90 minutes whistle was blown as that game ended 1-1. That result still putting Southampton sitting fifth in current standings with 19 points, level with fourth place Manchester City.
