Sporting Lisbon 1-3 SL Benfica highlights: Benfica continue to stay at the top of Portuguese league after picking up an important victory over Sporting Lisbon on Monday.
Playing away from home, it wasn't an easy task at all for Jorge Jesus' men as Sporting were playing in such spirited fashion. The host showed their eagerness in getting all three points as they managed to take the lead through Ricky van Wolfswinkel's excellent finish.
It took a while before Benfica managed to get an equalizer and it also came from an own goal scored by Marcos Rojo few minutes after the re-start. Things eventually got worse for the home side after that equalizer as they give away a penalty after Khalid Boulahrouz made a goal-line clearance with his hand. Not only that spot kick resulted in a goal scored by Oscar Cardozo, but it also means that Sporting were a man down as Boulahrouz was sent off.
Playing a man up, Benfica added another goal few minutes later through Cardozo again, this time with a powerful header inside the penalty area. The victory put the Eagles back at top, level on points with FC Porto but Jorge Jesus' men got a better goal difference.
