Southampton Vs Chelsea Highlights:Chelsea’s rollercoaster of a season continues rolling on with a shocking 2-1 defeat against Southampton when playing in St.Mary’s Stadium.
This result allows Arsenal to catch up to Rafael Benitez team with the 4th place spot of the Premier League being in jeopardy.
Rodriguez had one of the better early chances on putting his ahead when he launched a volley effort which went above the crossbar.
Throughout the opening minutes it was Southampton who looked as the stronger team and they earned themselves the opening goal at the 23rd minute when Rodriguez made no mistake in receiving a defence-splitting pass from Lambert and firing it past the likes of Peter Cech.
The visitors responded some minutes later with John Terry heading the ball inside the net of Southampton and equalizing the match 1-1.
Unfortunately for Chelsea the score did not remain like that for very long.
At the 35th minute Rickie Lambert stepped up to take a free-kick and he beautifully lifted it over the wall of players and curled it away from the reach of Cech.
The 23 years old forward of Southampton Jay Rodriguez kept on pushing forward and had a number of chances on extending the lead for his team but was wasteful and could not add more goals to his tally.
Southampton edged their way past Chelsea and secured the victory which gives them a total of 34 points being collected so far.
