Southampton Vs Stoke City Highlights: Southampton faced off against Stoke City at St.Mary’s Stadium on the last day of the 2012-12 Premier League season and the match concluded in a 1-1 draw with both goals being scored in the 2nd half.
Peter Crouch opened up the scoreboard at the 47th minute as he gave Stoke City the perfect start after leaving their dressing room and entered the pitch to finish playing the remaining minutes of the encounter.
Geoff Cameron runs into space on the right flank before receiving the ball and advancing up the wing. The US international delivers an excellent out swinging cross towards Peter Crouch, who darts in front of his marker and heads the ball deftly into the bottom left corner to score against his former club.
The joy of being ahead only lasted a few minutes as Rickie Lambert found the equalizer moments later.
The Saints win a free kick on the right flank but Lallana's delivery fails to beat the first man. The attack continues and Lallana gets a second attempt to cross the ball from the right by-line. Stoke fail to clear and replays suggest Fonte puts his hand to the ball, but Hooiveld is able to roll the ball to Steven Davis on the left edge of the box. Davis' cross shot then runs through to Rickie Lambert who puts his side at 1-1 with a simple finish.
It ends with Southampton finding the equalizer and forcing a 1-1 draw at St Mary's with Rickie Lambert's finish cancelling out ex-Saint Peter Crouch's opener. There were a few nervy moments at the end, mostly for the visiting supporters, but in truth both sides looked happy with the draw with their Premier League survival already secured. The Saints players are due to return to the pitch for a lap of honor shortly, with the home crowd, and even some away fans, soaking up the celebratory atmosphere.
