Middlesbrough picked up an important result on their midweek English Championship fixture after defeating Wolverthampton Wanderers at Riverside Stadium.
Still within a shot in winning the competition, Boro put on an aggressive display since early minutes hoping to snatch an early goal.
That approach was successful as they got themselves a break after only three minutes in the clock through Jelle Vossen's strike.
Things got even better for Middlesbrough when on 11 minutes they managed to double their advantage, this time with a goal coming from Patrick Bamford.
Wolves were not keen on giving up easily though as they poured forward vigorously in the second half in an attempt to get back on level terms.
The away side were only able to pull one goal back through when Bakary Sako scored on 53 minutes.
However, that was not enough to stop Boro from grabbing all three points as they managed to hold their 2-1 lead until the final whistle was blown.
