Maribor made their way into the knock out stages of Europa League as they bagged an important home victory over Wigan Athletic this past midweek. Needing all three points to open their shot in advancing from the group stage, the home side were pushing hard for three points since kick off, but instead off taking the lead they found themselves trailing when Jordi Gomez scored from the spot kick on 41 minutes.
The home side refused to give up as they bounced back instantly as two minutes later they drew level with an effort from Dejan Mezga's effort. After the break, Maribor continue to push forward as they eventually turned things around thanks to a goal from Zeljko Filipovic on 59 minutes. That victory was enough to earn them that ticket into the knock out stages of Europa League ahead of Zulte Waregem.
