Manchester United dramatically went out of Capital One Cup semifinal campaign despite winning their second leg battle against Sunderland 2-1 as David Moyes' side got beaten in the penalty shoot out. Losing 2-1 in the first meeting, forced Man United to come out strong on their midweek battle and that positive effort was rewarded with Johnny Evans putting them in front after 37 minutes of play.
That one goal lead was not enough though to take Man United through into the next stage as away goal difference will only counter after extra rime situation. Since that 1-0 score line didn't change during the full 90 minutes, that interesting second leg duel must go into that 2x15 addition and things were looking set for Man United, until a dramatic goal from Phillip Bardsley gave Sunderland the edge. However, another late effort, this time from United's Javier Hernandez forced that tie to go into penalty shoot out, providing an extra tension for everyone.
In the shoot out, both teams' shooters actually didn't performed well, but Sunderand got the edge as they have two players getting into the score sheet, while United only one. Rafael's missed as Man U's fifth penalty taker confirmed the Black Cat's passage into the final of Capital One Cup, in which they will be facing Manchester City.
