Liverpool opened their Premier League fixture in a positive manner after grabbing all three points by defeating Southampton at Anfield this Sunday.
Playing in front of their loyal crowd, Brendan Rodgers' men were keen on proving that they can survive even without Luis Suarez.
The Reds showed that positive display early on as they got themselves in front on 23 minutes through Raheem Sterling's effort.
That goal lasted until half time break as both teams failed to add another one during the first 45 minutes.
After the break, Southampton worked hard in getting back into that tie and their effort was rewarded when Nathaniel Clyne finished off an assist from Dusan Tadic on 56 minutes.
However, it was Liverpool that came away with all three points in the end as Daniel Sturridge made it 2-1 on 79 minutes.
