Looking motivated after previously grabbing their first group win over Kazakhstan, Dutch were determined in grabbing another three point on that match.
However, a clumsy defending gave them trouble as they conceded a spot kick which was converted perfectly by Gylfi Sigurdsson on 10 minutes.
Trailing by a goal, Guus Hiddink's men tried hard to get back on level terms, but none of their efforts were successful as Ireland put on a solid display at the back.
Instead of leveling the score, Netherlands found themselves going two goals down when Sigurdsson netted his second on 42 minutes.
Dutch tried to push vigorously after the break, but they still can't break down their opponent's back line as that game ended in a 2-0 win for Iceland.
