Spanish giant Real Madrid got themselves back into strong contention for La Liga title this season after snatching an important away victory over tricky Espanyol side on Sunday. Eager to cut the gap with two teams above them, Los Blancos were keen on grabbing maximum points from that away fixture, but it was far from an easy contest especially early in that encounter where the home side put on such solid display. Madrid did manage to get hold of that match as the minutes goes by, but they couldn't break down their opponent during the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, Los Blancos finally got things going when Pepe scored with a fine header on 55 minutes to open his team's scoring on that day. That goal triggered a much more open contest with Espanyol committing more men forward in search for equalizing goal, while Madrid tried to hit them with a fast counter attacking play. Despite both teams' creating several chances, no more goals were scored in that game as Carlo Ancelotti's men holding on to their slender lead.
