Japan showed positive signs ahead of their World Cup 2014 campaign as Alberto Zaccheroni's men picked up a comfortable win over Costa Rica this midweek.
Playing against fellow World Cup contestants, Japan were experiencing that competitive feel as their opponent put on an aggressive display right from the start.
Costa Rica's positive approach was rewarded when they found themselves going one goal up on 31 minutes from Bryan Ruiz's close range finish.
The Asian giant failed to get any reply in that first period, but they bounced back after the break, starting with an equalizing goal which was scored by Yasuhito Endo on 60 minutes.
10 minutes from time. Japan finally turned things around as their star midfielder, Shinji Kagawa finishing off an assist from Yoichiro Kakitani.
Kakitani himself eventually got his name on the score sheet as he netted his team's third goal in stoppage time, securing a victory for Japan.
