Basel Vs Tottenham Hotspur (Aggregate 4-4) Highlights:The St.Jakob Park witnessed what probably was the best Europa League quarter-final match in quite some time. Basel hosted Tottenham in their 2nd leg that concluded with a fierce penalty shoot-out with the home team coming out on top.
Tottenham had to play without Gareth Bale and even though they did suffer without their best player it still was a superb performance from the Premier League side. Clint Dempsey gave them the lead at the 23rd minute after receiving an assist from Jan Vertonghen and tucking it past Basel’s goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
Mohamed Salah responded only 5 minutes later by scoring his 1rst goal in Europa when he took full advantage of a loose ball inside the penalty box of Tottenham and maintaining his team in the match.
Dragovic was next in line to fire a shot that found its intended target but Tottenham continued on charging forward trying somehow to find a way to score against the Swiss team.
With 10 minutes remaining on the match Clint Dempsey scored his 2nd goal with a left-footed strike that forced the game on extending with 30 more minutes being added on.
Vertonghen saw a red card but even with the extra time that was given everything would be decided in a penalty shoot-out.
The penalty kicks started off awful for Tottenham when they saw Basel’s Yann Sommer saving the shot from Huddlestone and some moments later Adebayor taking a shot that was fired well wide away from the net of Basel.
Basel made no mistake from their shots which ultimately gave them the victory and fires them into the semifinals of the Europa League.
