AS Monaco's challenge for the French Ligue 1 title this campaign continue to get tougher when they picked up a disappointing away defeat against Saint-Etienne. Playing away from home didn't really stop Monaco from pushing forward vigorously on that weekend tie, but St Etienne were putting on a solid performance as well and it was the host that got things going as they went one goal up on 17 minutes from Fabien Lemoine's effort.
After the break, both teams continue to pour forward in search for goals, especially Monaco as they were trailing by a goal and were not keen on picking up a defeat on that tie. However, it was St Etienne that managed to double their advantage with an effort from Romain Hamouma who scored on 66 minutes. Until the final whistle was blown, the visitor failed to produce any sort of reply as that tie ended in a comfortable two goals lead for the home team.
