AS Roma 2-0 SSC Napoli highlights: Roma continue their reign at the top of Italian Serie A standings after grabbing an important home win over their title rival, Napoli at Olympico stadium last Friday.
Having the first place spot at stake, Roma were keen on making a bright start on that big match encounter as they tried to push forward early on. However, it was not an easy task for Rudi Garcia's men as their opponent were also putting on a solid display early on. Playing more on the counter, Napoli actually had couple of chances in taking the lead, notably from Goran Pandev, who missed from a one on one situation. That failure proved costly as just before half time break, the Giallorossi got themselves in front through Miralem Pjanic's beautiful free kick.
Napoli tried to put on more attacking effort in the second half, but their attempts were looking fruitless as Roma played some solid defensive system. Things continue to swing into the capital side as they found themselves playing with one man up plus getting a penalty kick which was converted perfectly by Pjanic on 71 minutes. The dismissal of Paolo Cannavaro and trailing by two goals were simply too much for the Partenopei as they never managed to show any slight of potential comeback since that second goal.
