Last season's France Ligue 1 runners up, AS Monaco failed to start their new season with a bang as they suffered a disappointing home defeat over Lorient.
Both teams were eager to make a positive start in the new season, especially ambitious Monaco that are targeting to win this year's Ligue 1.
However, things didn't got that well for the host as they found themselves trailing after only nine minutes of play though Vincent Aboubakar's penalty kick.
That slender lead lasted until half time break as Monaco failed to get back on level terms during that first 45 minutes.
After the break, Leonardo Jardim's men were keen on improving their game as their star man, Radamel Falcao also entered the pitch.
Falcao's return pumped Monaco's spirit as they eventually draw level on 78 minutes from the Colombian international's spot kick.
Unfortunately, the sending off for Ricardo Carvalho 10 minutes before Falcao's equalizer finally hit on the home team as they found themselves conceding again when Valentin Lavigne scored Lorient's second three minutes from time.
No more goals were scored afterwards with Lorient successfully holding to their slender 2-1 lead until the final whistle was blown.
