Benfica took control of the first leg of their Europa League quarter finals battle after defeating home team, AZ Alkmaar on Thursday.
The visitor were not having it easy though especially early on as AZ were pouring forward vigorously since kick off.
Benfica were under serious pressure during the first 45 minutes as their opponent continue to create goal scoring chances.
Unfortunately, no goals were scored by AZ during that first half period a situation that they eventually rues.
After the break, Benfica improved their performance and managed to create more trouble for their opponent.
The Portuguese showed their experience as they managed to get in front when Eduardo Salvio scored from a rebound on 48 minutes.
That goal turned out to be the game winner as until the final whistle was blown neither sides managed to finish their remaining chances.
