Germany coach Joachim Loew deserves a medal for his efforts this summer, and now looks set to receive one.
The 50-year-old guided his country to a third place finish after Saturday’s victory against Uruguay in Port Elizabeth.
German President Christian Wulff has announced that the players and their manager will all be honoured on their return home, with the prestigious Federal Cross of Merit earmarked for Loew himself.
The National Mannschaft achieved the same result last time around on home soil under Juergen Klinsmann, but Loew’s achievement is arguably even more impressive given the inexperienced nature of this year’s young squad.
“The team have represented Germany well,” Wulff said.
Members of the playing squad will each be given Silver Laurel awards for excellence in sport.
