After lifting the Carling Cup at Wembley on Sunday, the Reds have set their sights on completing a personal “treble” in finishing fourth place and bagging the FA Cup. While the Reds remaining ambitions will be put to the test this month, Liverpool owner John Henry and Director of Football Damien Comolli have already stated their intentions for the summer.
Winning the Carling Cup qualifies Liverpool for the Europa League, a competition they missed out on this season. While it does not carry the prestige of the Champions League, it is another “phase” in Liverpool’s rebuilding process. The tag of European football is likely to attract a bigger set of footballers than one could without it, and Comolli has stated that they are ready for another busy summer.
‘There’s a very positive vibe around the club across Europe,’ Comolli told the Daily Mail.
‘A lot players I know are very interested about joining the project because it’s a very interesting project. We already know that there are big players who want to join us next summer because they believe in the project.
‘Everybody in Europe knows what Liverpool football club are trying to do.’
Liverpool have been linked with Eden Hazard over the past few seasons, and reports have sprung that Henry is ready to splash the cash in order to land Liverpool “big name” signings. Players such as Keisuke Honda, Javi Martinez and Seydou Keita have also been reported, leaving Liverpool fans anxious for yet another busy summer.
