Manchester United -

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes there is a freshness to Wayne Rooney this season that ensures ‘he can never stand still’ on the pitch. A year ago it was an entirely difficult story for Rooney, who was rocked with allegations about his private life before stunning the club by admitting he wanted to leave. Two days later, and in a dramatic U-turn, Rooney pledged his future to the club by signing a five-year contract.

The start of the year brought a new swagger to his play however and he scored 14 goals in 26 appearances over the second half of the season. It took him just 13 minutes to register his first goal of the new season against West Brom last weekend and will look to take that performance into the tomorrow’s game against Spurs. Ferguson stated, ‘He’s been flying in pre-season. His fitness is terrific, he has the same energy all the time, he is a restless player on the pitch, he can never stand still. He is a tremendous asset to our squad’.

Manchester United take on Spurs tomorrow evening in the live Monday night football with Phil Jones and Jonny Evans set to begin at the heart of the defence with Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand out injured. The latest news can be found at and a full preview of the match will be available tomorrow on 1000goals.
