Liverpool 1-1 Manchester United. A match atypical of a clash between England’s giants of football; pace, passion, goals. The match was marred however, by a spat between Liverpool’s Luis Suarez and Manchester United’s Patrice Evra. Fingers were pointed and a few pushes made their way into the fray, though no one quite knew what had went on. After the match, however, the Football Association faced it’s worst nightmare; a racism claim by a player.

Several months and Suarez eight-match ban has been served and the Uruguayan is back in a red shirt ready to lead Liverpool on to one last charge on the top four. Evra has since publicly claimed that he does not believe Luis Suarez is a racist, but Suarez himself has refused to apologize to the United left-back. Evra’s word alone got Suarez banned, however the Liverpool No.7 has spoken about his desire to lead the Liverpool line Saturday morning.

‘I know against Man United it is going to be tense because I’m going to face Evra. But I’m used to having fans whistle at me. I hope nothing unusual happens. I’ll have to forget what happened for that moment,’ Suarez told Uruguay’s Radio Sport 890.

‘I do know Man United fans are going to try to make me feel uncomfortable. But I have to tell them – they are going to spur me on if they whistle at me.

‘I was not depressed at all [during suspension]. I knew what I did and there is a kind of football law that says “what happens on the pitch, stays on the pitch and that’s the end of the story”.’

Sir Alex Ferguson has also been dragged into the fray not only with Evra, but Rio Ferdinand as well. Ferdinand was subject to the boo-boys at Stamford Bridge last weekend. Rio’s brother, Anton Ferdinand, was also subject to a racial conflict in October of last year. John Terry was charged with racial abuse and is set for a court date after the Euro’s. The amount of racial abuse that has been spurning about from fans across the country has surprised Sir Alex after football has “progressed so much.”

‘I don’t understand at all where it’s coming from. This is a moment where we have to take stock and we should do something about it if it’s surfacing again, and be really hard and firm on any form or shape of racism.

‘There have been a couple of examples recently which is not good. In 2012, you can’t believe it. It was obvious maybe 20 years ago, and improvements have been there for everyone to see.’
