“We’re the home side so of course we pushed hard [for a winner] at the end. We’re a confident group, and we don’t really fear anyone. The coaching and scouting staff are outstanding [picking up Sol Bamba]. City are going to be a strong side at home but we’ve given ourselves a chance. But the league is very important to us. Man City goal: We’re all square at the Walkers. James Milner produces some genuine quality, playing a one-two with Carlos Tevez down the inside right channel, dummying inside Sol Bamba and hitting a fine, low left-foot shot into the corner of Chris Weale’s net from 16 yards. Top goal.

Man City goal: Brilliant, brilliant finish and City are in front. The visitors take a corner short and James Milner has time and space to smash over a low cross from the right – anything Little Pea can do Carlitos can do too, so Carlos Tevez gets there before Chris Weale and flicks the ball between his legs and into the Leicester net. Wonderful.

Leicester goal: Cracking Cup tie, this one. It’s had a bit of everything – and now it’s got a monumental mistake from City keeper Joe Hart, who doesn’t make them very often. Paul Gallagher curls over an inswinging cross from the left and it bounces in front of Hart, who fails to grasp it and then as he goes for the rebound, Andy King gets there first to bundle home from inside the six-yard box.
