Chelsea 7-0 Ipswich highlights
Sun 09 Jan 2011
“With this seven-star performance, Chelsea’s fortunes may just have turned full circle, away from the frustrations of recent weeks and back to the irresistible form of the season’s outset. It’s just unfortunate for Ipswich that it happened on their watch.”
Chelsea vs Ipswich line-ups:
Chelsea: Cech, Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Van Aanholt, Ramires, McEachran, Lampard, Kalou, Anelka, Sturridge.
Subs: Hilario, Essien, Drogba, Malouda, Ferreira, Bruma, Kakuta.
Ipswich: Fulop, Brown, McAuley, O’Dea, Kennedy, Peters, Norris, Healy, Edwards, Scotland, Wickham.
Subs: Lee-Barrett, Delaney, Priskin, Smith, Eastman, Civelli, Murray.
Referee: Andy D’Urso (Essex)
Chelsea’s Frank Lampard on their 7-0 win over Ipswich: “It’s helpful for the confidence. A couple of the young lads came in and did really well and we need to take that into the league. It was something like us back to their best. It came at a nice time for us, but no disrespect to Ipswich. It’s a long old season and I’ve got half the season now to try and contribute.”
GOAL Chelsea 1-0 Ipswich (Kalou)
Chelsea goal: The Blues take the lead their dominance has deserved, and it’s largely down to Nicolas Anelka. A lovely passing move ends with the Frenchman shooting goalwards and Marton Fulop gets something on it, it’s going over the line anyway but Salomon Kalou makes sure from point-blank range.
GOAL Chelsea 2-0 Ipswich (Sturridge)
Chelsea goal: That might be that at Stamford Bridge as the Premier League team show their quality. This one is down to a moment of individual brilliance, as Daniel Sturridge back-heels into the Tractor Boys’ net from six yards. Cracking stuff.
GOAL Chelsea 3-0 Ipswich (Edwards og)
Chelsea goal: The Blues go three-up at Stamford Bridge, where Carlos Edwards has just got a touch on a Frank Lampard free-kick which inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net. When it rains…
GOAL Chelsea 4-0 Ipswich (Anelka)
Chelsea goal: Now that definitely is game over. The Blues knock it around nicely and carve Ipswich open – it ends with Nicolas Anelka clinically slamming the ball past Marton Fulop from inside the Ipswich box for his 11th goal of the season.
GOAL Chelsea 5-0 Ipswich (Sturridge)
Chelsea goal: Men against boys. Daniel Sturridge gets his second of the game and the hosts are just scoring at will. This time the striker turns the ball back on to his right foot and thumps the ball past poor Marton Fulop in the Ipswich goal.
GOAL Chelsea 6-0 Ipswich (Lampard)
Chelsea goal: They’ve gone crazy, Chelsea. Frank Lampard scores his first goal of the game, smashing in from the edge of the penalty area. Poor, poor Marton Fulop in the Ipswich goal.
GOAL Chelsea 7-0 Ipswich (Lampard)
Chelsea goal: It’s two in a minute for Frank Lampard, this one a little bit closer to goal but every bit as devastating, this time after great work from Branislav Ivanovic. Got to feel a bit sorry for Ipswich caretaker boss Ian ‘Charlie’ McParland too, I’d have thought.
