Everton denied Man City a win after defeating them 2-1 thanks to goals by Sylvain Distin and Leon Osman.
Man City boss Roberto Mancini:
“This game today was incredible. We scored, we had chances to score more, but if you don’t keep concentrating for 90 minutes you get punished. They played long ball, long ball, long ball and they scored twice. We had chances ourselves but we were selfish – in football you can’t afford to be selfish.”
Goal Everton 0-1 Man City (Toure)
Man City goal: If it stays like this, they can start planning for Champions League football at Eastlands next season. David Silva collects the ball 25 yards out after Sylvain Distin dives in and doesn’t get the ball, the Spaniard gets into the box, slips a pass for Yaya Toure on his right and the midfielder fires his shot into the far corner past Tim Howard.
Goal Everton 1-1 Man City (Distin)
Everton goal: That’s livened things up even more at Goodison Park, and the hosts are level. Mikel Arteta swings a free-kick into the City box and Sylvain Distin climbs high to thump a header goalwards, Joe Hart getting a hand to it but not managing to keep it out.
Goal Everton 2-1 Man City (Osman)
Everton goal: That’s as good a headed goal as you’ll see all season long – and Everton have completed a stunning turnaround. Mikel Arteta sends Phil Neville away on the right and he curls over a lovely cross to just inside the City box, where Leon Osman, bursting forward from midfield, sends a magnificent header over Joe Hart and into the City net. Get Osman in the England squad – that was sensational.
