The Euro 2012 ‘Group of Death’ kicks off on Saturday, with the highly-fancied Netherlands taking on always-solid Denmark.
Netherlands enter Euro 2012 as one of the favourites for the tournament, and rightly so given the attacking quality in their ranks. The likes of Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder and Robin van Persie will lead the football-mad nation into the competition, as the Dutch look to make amends for a couple of close calls in recent tournaments. Bert van Marwijk’s men were imperious in qualifying, winning all but one game and they have looked ominous in pre-tournament friendlies. A 2-0 win over Slovakia was followed by a 6-0 rout of Northern Ireland, and the Oranje will look to get off to a strong start with Germany and Portugal also to play in the group. Bwin have Holland as favourites for the first game of Group B, giving them odds of 1.50 for a win.
Denmark have been written off due to the quality of the other three sides that they must play in Group B, but seasoned coach Morten Olsen will look to use this to his advantage as little pressure is on the Danes ahead of Euro 2012. The Scandinavian outfit did finish in their qualifying pool ahead of Portugal, and beat Australia 2-0 in their last game before the competition starts. Much of the emphasis to get goals will be on Nicklas Bendtner and Christian Eriksen, whilst captain Daniel Agger will expect to come under pressure at the other end. Bwin have Denmark at odds of 6.50 for a win.
Netherlands should win this one given their attacking quality but expect Denmark to make it difficult. My Euro 2012 football betting tip is a 2-0 win to Netherlands, which Bwin have at odds of 6.25.
