Udinese have confirmed that Manchester City are the favourites to sign winger Alexis Sanchez should the Chilean leave the club this summer. There are a host of clubs interested in securing his transfer, including Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus, Real Madrid and Manchester United but City have emerged as the clear favourites in attempting to secure a transfer.
Udinese president Giampaolo Pozzo has admitted that City’s financial muscle has seen them steal a march on their rivals with the Italian club looking for a figure of around £40 million. It has been suggested that City’s administrator Brian Marwood is leading a delegation to Italy in order to tie up a deal for the player dubbed ‘the new Ronaldo’.
Carlos Tevez’s future remains unclear as he continues to drop hints about leaving the club whilst City have been knocked back in a possible £150 million move for Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo. It has been reported that City are lining up a world record bid for the former Manchester United striker but the man himself has distanced himself from the move. He told the Cadena Cope radio station, ‘I can’t see myself leaving Madrid. If I was after just money I could have doubled what I have in my account’. On top of the £150 million fee, City were reportedly prepared to offer wages of around £300,000 a week and make him the best paid player in the history of the game.
The future of City wingers James Milner and Adam Johnson remain unclear as they prepare for the new season. Milner moved to City last summer in a £24 million deal but has found himself playing second fiddle in midfield for the majority of the season whilst Johnson has also found himself out of the team on many occasions this year. Johnson has perhaps been City’s best player at times this season and always seems to impress when picked, but it seems he is becoming increasingly frustrated with life out of the team and Liverpool seem to be monitoring the situation extremely closely.
