It has been a quiet summer in terms of player transfers by Chelsea standards, with Andres Villas Boas, the Blues new manager, being the high profile signing so far.  However, Chelsea remain keen to inject youth into an aging side, and look set to land Romelu Lukaku, dubbed the next Drogba, in the coming weeks.

Reports this morning claim that Chelsea are in talks with Anderlecht’s top administrator over the transfer of the 18 year old Belgian.  General manager Herman van Holsbeeck flew to
London to try to agree a fee after  the 18-year-old underlined his eagerness to play for his boyhood idols.

Lukaku has attracted interest from numerous clubs across Europe, with Liverpool, Real Madrid and Tottenham all keen on the striker as well.  A bid from Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid seems imminent but Chelsea will look to secure the striker as quickly as possible to avoid an auction for the players services.

Last month Lukaku filled in a questionnaire for a young fan, at a sponsor’s event in the Flemish city Hasselt, and wrote
that his dream was to be a Chelsea player.

Now he appears to be on the verge of fulfilling his lifelong ambition, even if the Londoners face an anxious wait while Van Holsbeeck speaks with the other club who have made contact with Anderlecht.
