With new boss Andre Villas-Boas taking charge at the club, it is expected he will begin his summer spending by launching a bid for a striker to play with Fernando Torres next season. Didier Drogba suffered a loss of form last season and is no longer guaranteed a starting place in the Chelsea team. Whilst Torres did not fair much better, he is expected to regain his form in the new season as he adapts to life at Chelsea. Daniel Sturridge has returned to the club from his loan-spell at Bolton Wanderers and is expected to make an impression whilst Salomon Kalou remains an impact player from the bench. If the new coach does decide to spend big on a striker, it will almost certainly end Drogba’s spell at the club with the Ivorian unwilling to play a bit-part role.

Neymar

The young Brazilian is one of the most sought-after strikers in the world following his performances at club and international level. He is now established as a starter in the Brazil national team and has a buy out clause of £40 million in his contract. His club Santos are under no pressure to sell however due to the economic boom in Brazil which has placed the club in a strong position. He is also being chased by Barcelona and Real Madrid and has scored 27 league goals in 64 games for Santos, as well as winning the Libertadores this month.

Romelu Lukaku

The young Belgian has drawn comparisons with Didier Drogba due to his physical resemblance to the striker. He began scoring goals for Anderlecht aged just 16 and scored his first two international goals against Russia earlier this year. He has scored 31 league goals in 71 games for his club and also netted 131 goals in 93 games at youth level. He would cost in the region of £30 million and only time will tell whether he can continue his progression at one of Europe’s top clubs, with Real Madrid also interested.

Falcao

The Porto striker enjoys a good relationship with Villas-Boas having played under him last season where he struck a remarkable 39 goals in 42 games. He is expected to be available for a figure of £26 million with Real Madrid and Inter Milan also monitoring the situation. He has a wonderful left foot but is capable of playing on either side as well as through the middle and is also a major force in the air.
