Manuel Neuer current contract at Bundesliga side Schalke 04 is set to expire at the end of the 2011/12 season and it’s already a fact the German would not be signing a new extension.

Accordingly, Manchester United are fighting a losing battle with Bayern Munich over the 25-year-old who seams determined to leave Veltins-Arena but, despite his blistering form, United aren’t ready to splash big bucks to lure him over to Old Trafford.

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge thus insists Neuer would not be leaving Germany and would probably be joining his team this summer, though talks with Schalke 04 are still in progress.

“Let’s talk about the facts,” he said to ZDF television. “Fact one is Manuel Neuer will not be staying with Schalke beyond 2012. Fact two is that Manuel Neuer will not be moving abroad.”

Rummenigge also stated earlier: “We are in talks with Schalke, but I am not as optimistic as certain members of the media.

“We don’t have any urgency, though. It is only 30 April and the transfer market closes on 31 August. We will see if we can find a solution. If there is one, then OK, but if not then both clubs will have to live with it.”

The only problem for Munich might be the fact that the supporters have protested against his arrival at the Allianz Arena, while their star midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger more than welcomes the swoop and says: “If you can sign Manuel Neuer, who is not only the world’s best, but Germany’s goalkeeper too, you have to sign him.

“If there is the chance to strengthen the position, so that no other team is better, then you have to do it.

“I personally hope the club manage to sign him.”

However, we are pretty sure United will stay on the alert and maybe the Champions League second-leg two clubs are bound to play on Wednesday may push Ferguson to push the boat out for Neuer.
