After losing their first two matches of the season against Manchester United and Manchester City respectively, Tottenham have embarked on a quite remarkable run of form. Winning 10 and drawing one of their 11 league games since is certainly title-winning form. Make no mistake about it, boss Harry Redknapp secured a major coup when he persuaded Luka Modric to remain at the club in the summer.
The Croatian international has been, along with Gareth Bale and Scott Parker, their shining light this season. Add that to the class and goals of Emmanuel Adebayor and Rafael Van der Vaart and the sheer pace of Aaron Lennon – Spurs have a front six that matches the very best in the league.
For all their riches however, they lack depth, namely up-front and out wide. Redknapp has openly admitted his admiration for Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente but he would command a huge transfer figure and it is unlikely the Spanish club would be prepared to lose their star man. There is also a worry about their options out-wide should Lennon or Bale become injured and they are keen on Chelsea’s out-of-favour winger Florent Malouda.
Redknapp could also look to strengthen his defence with injuries to Michael Dawson and William Gallas and the unreliability of Ledley King’s fitness. Chelsea defender Alex is an option while the club may also look to reignite their interest in Bolton defender Gary Cahill.
