Arsenal are set to make an £11 million move for Argentinean midfielder Ricardo Alvarez who has been dubbed as the ‘new Fabregas’. Although a deal is yet to be completed, there has been significant interest and contact with his club Velez in the last few days. Arsenal were in talks with the club last month about a possible deal but seemed to be unwilling to pay the £11 million figure quoted for someone with limited experience, but with the club set to start pre-season within the next couple of weeks, Wenger is keen to get the 23-year-old on board as soon as possible. He can play on both wings and also from central midfield and his addition could finally see Fabregas leave the club to join Barcelona. The Catalan club had a £27 million bid rejected earlier this week but look to submit an improved offer which could kick-start Arsenal’s summer spending.

The deal for Fabregas is far from being confirmed however with both clubs still way apart in their valuations. Due to Fabregas’ desire to join Barcelona, they feel they hold the upper hand and seem unwilling to move above the £30 million mark but Arsenal are looking for a figure of around £50 million which simply will not happen for a player who is not guaranteed an immediate first-team place at the club.

Whilst, Arsenal are expected to announce the signing of Lille striker Gervinho for £12 million in the next couple of days. Club officials have been locked in talks with the French club over the signing of the Ivory Coast international and it seems that a deal is close. Lille have already rejected a £10.5 million bid from Tottenham whilst Paris St Germain made a late player-plus-cash bid for the striker which was rejected due to his desire to play in England. They are also still trying to thrash out deals for Gary Cahill and Chris Samba as Wenger attempts to strengthen his defence which was their downfall last season.
