It has been some turnaround in Arsenal’s fortunes over the past few weeks. Beaten by AC Milan in the first-leg of their Champions League encounter and dumped out of the FA Cup in quick succession by Sunderland pointed to a painful and long ending to the season for Arsene Wenger’s side.

In truth, it is looking like anything but, an almost remarkable turnaround in their second-leg encounter with Milan, albeit eventually a 4-3 loss on aggregate, and recent Premier League wins against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool has finally eased some of the pressure on the Gunners.

The club’s real test will emerge at the end of the season, however, when the transfer window opens once again. Wenger needs to secure Champions League football, and they have put themselves in a good position with 11 games of the league campaign left to play.

They sit in fourth place, three points ahead of Chelsea, and now just four points behind Tottenham Hotspur, as I predicted would be the case after last week’s games. Some more good news for Arsenal fans has emerged with the apparent conclusion of a move for Koln striker Lukas Podolski. The £10.9m move, for a player who has scored 16 goals this season, looks a shrewd move by Wenger.

Arsenal’s summer business will surely play a huge role in determining whether skipper and star man Robin Van Persie remains at the Emirates. The Dutch international leads the goalscoring charts in the league with 25 goals, and has been the in-form striker in England for some time.

Wenger needs to open his check book this summer to make Arsenal a real force once more, and has set his sights on Borussia Dortmund’s Mario Gotze and Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila, players which could convince Van Persie that the Arsenal of old could just be around the corner.
