Champions Manchester United have already secured the transfers of Phil Jones and Ashley Young and look set to complete a deal for David de Gea in next few weeks. Chelsea, have been linked with Luka Modric, Neymar and Falcao in the last week and are expected to start splashing the cash. Arsenal however, have completed just one signing so far this summer, Carl Jenkinson from Charlton Athletic. It is hardly a secret that Arsene Wenger needs to spend this summer, or risk being left behind in the race for the Premier League title. It is probably not a co-incidence, that when the best players in the world become available, Arsenal are not touted as a possible destination. Alexis Sanchez has been linked with Manchester United, Barcelona, Manchester City and Real Madrid. Similarly, Neymar has been linked with everyone but Arsenal.
They are said to be working on a deal to bring Chris Samba to the club from Blackburn Rovers but Rovers boss Steve Kean has stated that he is under no pressure to sell his captain. He told talksport, ‘We don’t have to sell him. He signed a five-year contract in the last window and he’s one of the players we would like to keep. I said earlier this year you are always going to have interest in your good players. It means they’re playing well and you’re playing well as team’. They have also been linked with a move for Bolton defender Gary Cahill but Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur seem to have moved ahead of them in the race to sign the towering defender.
Scott Parker has yet to move from West Ham and would be an ideal addition to a midfield which lacks bite and a driving force. If it wasn’t for Robin Van Persie’s outstanding form towards the end of last season, they may have fallen out of the top four and face a series fight this season to stay in touching distance at the top of the Premier League. They have also been linked with a move for West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie who enjoyed a superb campaign last season while Nicklas Bendtner looks set to leave the club with a move to Germany.
