Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stepped up his interest in Germany striker Lukas Podolski.

Gunners scouts have watched the Koln star on more than one occasion this season with the club in pressing need of a central striker to provide cover, competition and indeed potentially partner Robin Van Persie. A bid of around £20 million could tempt Koln to sell with the player’s contract set to expire in 18 months.

Wenger is also keen on Dortmund forward Mario Gotze but faces a vast array of competition with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United also chasing the German.
