Sergio Aguero will take a huge step towards completing a £40 million move to Manchester City today when he arrives in England for transfer talks. The 23-year-old striker is set to wrap up a five-year-deal at City where he can expect to earn in excess of £200,000 a week.

The striker has been in Argentina since the end of the Copa America and failed to report back to pre-season training with Atletico Madrid last week having already made it clear he has no desire to return to the Spanish club. City have been unusually quiet in the transfer window so far, completing the fairly modest double signing’s of Gael Clichy and Stefan Savic whilst Thomas Sorenson could be on his way to fill the void left by Shay Given’s move to Aston Villa. Harry Redknapp stated at the end of last season that, ‘City have lined up players that will blow you away’. The signing of Aguero will certainly be seen as a major coup for the club and boss Roberto Mancini has decided to push on with the deal despite increased uncertainty over the future of Carlos Tevez.

Tevez’s switch to Corinthians fell through earlier this month and no other club has yet made contact about a move. Mancini stated yesterday that he expects Tevez to return to the club next week ahead of the Community Shield clash against Manchester United and he will play a part if he can prove his fitness.
