Brazilian striker Adriano ended his three-year contract with the Serie A club Roma and went back to his come country, where he signed a new one-year deal with Corinthians.
His Giallorossi contract was to expire in the summer of 2012 but it was terminated by mutual agreement. Series of injuries and a poor physical shape and strength kept him out of the pitch, eventually resulting in only five club’s appearances.
Reports also suggest the 29-year-old striker was feeling quite homesick and that the on-going personal issues, his alcohol addiction influenced his game and Roma management and did not want to risk club’s reputation on him. However, Adriando decided to head home after all, stating he’s ready to finally impress.
“Corinthians won’t regret it, I’m a fighting player. I’m not going there to create trouble, but to score goals,” Adriano told Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper.
“I simply saw no reason to stay on, I got injured three times, I had no continuity of matches, I thought it was a sign to return to Brazil.
“I know what I’m capable of. Now I must wait, work, train to recover my form.”
It is said the two parties have agreed only upon verbal agreement and it is only a matter of days the swoop would be officially finalised. Another Brazilian side, Flamengo, with this lose the opportunity to get a hold of Adriano, as recent press releases have been speculating that Adriano would love put Flamengo shirt on again, however club’s coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo stated they are not interested to take him back.
Adriano added: “It was a bit of a downer but I have to live my life. They could have at least spoken to me to see what I wanted but sadly it wasn’t possible.
“I must carry on with my life. I hope to be happy at Corinthians.”
