Michael Owen is set to make his first appearance of the season in Manchester United’s Carling Cup tie at Leeds tomorrow. The English striker has struggled to get anywhere near the first team this season, with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck blocking his route to the first-11. He has also failed to make the bench in the league with Dimitar Berbatov preferred as back-up.

But he is likely to start tomorrow as Sir Alex Ferguson will make a huge number of changes with the likes of Paul Pogba and Will Keane amongst the youngsters who should be involved. There will also be plenty of experience with Ryan Giggs and Ji Sung Park, with the likes of Mame Diouf and Federico Macheda also hoping to be involved.

Provisional squad: Lindegaard, Amos, Fabio, Jones, Evans, Giggs, Park, Carrick, Fletcher, Valencia, Owen, Berbatov, Macheda, Diouf, Pogba, W Keane, James, Brown, M.Keane, Thorpe, Fryers.
