Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City
Location: White Hart Lane
Kick-Off: Wednesday, December 16th – 3:00 PM ET
Tottenham
Tottenham are currently sitting in 5th place in the EPL, only four points away from Arsenal, who is holding down the fourth spot. The Spurs have just one loss in their last five games and will try to extend their streak this week when they play host to Manchester City.
Their task might be somewhat challenging as they will be without a number of players for their meeting with Man City as Jermain Jenas (food poisoning), Ledley King (knee), Jonathan Woodgate (groin), and Carlo Cudicini (wrist and pelvis) are all hampered. However, a good sign for Tottenham is that Luka Modric, who has been out with a leg injury, will be on the bench. Jermaine Defoe has been a bright spot for Tottenham and he will work on surpassing Didier Drogba for leading scorer in the EPL. His 12 goals are one shy of Drogba’s total. The Spurs are coming off a disappointing loss (1-0) to the Wanderers, only weeks after a monumental, 9-1, victory over Wigan.
Manchester City
Man City is going into Northern England without having lost a game thus far; Chelsea is the only other unbeaten team this season. City is going to try and change their luck at White Heart Lane as they have only one win there since 1991. Internet betting cappers know that challenge is tall for City to begin with but the task increases this week as they will also be without two of their key players. Shaun Wright-Phillips was injured in City’s last game against Bolton (ankle) while Craig Bellamy is also out due to suspension.
Outlook & Pick
The last time these two teams met at White Hart Lane, the Spurs edged out a 2-1 win via a controversial penalty kick with five minutes left in the match. Both teams are coming off disappointing matches and are looking to back on track with a win.
Tottenham is a +125 favorite at home to visiting Manchester City, a +215 underdog. The draw for this match is listed at +225.
Look for this to be a high-scoring match as both teams have allowed more than 20 goals, which is the highest goals allowed in the top ten of the league table. Even so, since most expert sports handicapping sharps are aware of Tottenham’s dominance over Man City at home, they won’t bet against them.
