QPR began life in the Premier League with a heavy loss as they were humbled 4-0 by Bolton at Loftus Road.
QPR: Kenny, Dyer (Orr 7 min), Hall, Gabbidon, Hill, Smith (Helguson 72 min), Derry, Faurlin, Taarabt (Buzsaky 72 min), Campbell, Bothroyd.
Bolton Wanderers: Jaaskelainen, Steinsson, Cahill, Knight, Robinson, Eagles (M Davies 81 min), Muamba, Reo-Coker (Pratley 83 min), Petrov, Davies, Klasnic (Blake 86 min).
QPR began the match in good form and had a goal disallowed after just 2 minutes when Campbell was deemed to have been offside after he put the ball in from six yards. If the early goal had been allowed to stand, it might have been a different afternoon for the newly promoted side. Then after five minutes disaster struck for Kieron Dyer, the midfielder had completed 90 minutes just once in his last 29 games and an awkward stretch led to the England midfielder being carried off on a stretcher. Bolton soon settled into the game with new signings Eagles and Reo-Coker influencing the game from midfield.
The away side were ahead on the stroke of half-time when Eagles found Cahill and the defender steadied himself before smashing a fine effort into the top corner of the net. QPR were struggling as the second period got underway, but their skipper Taarabt found some space after 56 minutes on the edge of the Bolton area but his shot flew wide when he might have worked the keeper. Bolton extended their lead after 68 minutes when Kevin Davies won a free-kick on the edge of the area – Eagles’ low delivery was deflected off the wall and Gabbidon put the ball into his own net to put the away side 2-0 ahead.
Before QPR knew where they were, Klasnic made it 3-0 to Bolton after he drilled home an effort from the edge of the box. QPR managed their first real chance of the game after 75 minutes when Buzsaky hit a free-kick wide from close range before smashing another one straight into the wall moments after. Muamba swept in number four after 79 minutes to compound QPR’s miserable day and to make matters worse, they had Clint Hill sent off late on for a headbutt on Petrov.
