Giant Serbian striker Nikola Zigic is hoping to be Radoslav Antic’s not-so-secret weapon in South Africa.
At 6ft 8in tall the 29-year old is certainly a towering prospect for defenders to deal with and has drawn notable comparisons with England’s 6ft 7in Peter Crouch.
Zigic, however, is hoping to turn his immense height to his country’s benefit and help his newly-named nation make a splash on the world stage.
“I play the way I play and the fact that I’m this tall is an advantage,” he said. “You could say that I’m similar to Peter Crouch, bit I aim to be better than Peter, maybe use my height a little better.”
This summer’s competition is Serbia’s first tournament as solo nation, but Zigic already has one World Cup goal under his belt from Germany in 2006.
But with Argentina, the Netherlands and Cote d’Ivoire standing in their way on that occasion, Serbia and Montenegro failed to win any of their group games four years ago, leading to a predictably early exit.
This time round, and with newly-unveiled Birmingham striker Zigic leading the line once again, things are looking up for the Balkan nation. Serbia have been drawn in Group D at South Africa 2010 alongside Germany, Australia and Ghana.
