Sweden’s surprise continuing as the Scandinavian side made their way into the quarter finals of FIFA World Cup 2018 following their 1-0 victory over Swiss.
Coming into the last 16 as their group winner, Janne Andersson’s men looking more confident as they started in such positive fashion, trying to search for goals as early as possible.
It was far from an easy match though for the Blue Yellow squad as Swiss themselves also put on a solid display, though seemingly struggling in the final third.
Sweden’s convincing 3-0 win on their final group game over Mexico certainly brings out that beliefs over their attacking ability as they created several dangerous moments in the first 45 minutes which they couldn’t finish.
After a goalless first 45 minutes, both teams continue pushing forward in search for that winning goal, but it was the Blue Yellow squad that had the better fortune as Emil Forsberg’s broke the dead lock with a deflected shot on 66 minutes.
Swiss tried hard to get themselves back into that tie, but none of their efforts were fruitful and making things even worse, they had to end that match with just 10 men as Michael Lang got himself sent off.
A precious result for Sweden as it’s been quite a while since they manage to go that far in the World Cup and they certainly will try to keep going further.
