Napoli, Sevilla Win Champions League Playoffs First Leg Battles
Top names in European Football, Napoli, Sevilla along with Celtic are inching closer to secure their place in Champions League group stage following their first leg victories.
Italian side, Napoli took a quite comfortable 2-0 win over French outfit, Nice with goals netted by Dries Mertens’ first half strike and also Jorginho’s spot kick midway into the second half.
It was a rather dramatic tie in the end which saw the Ligue 1 side finishing that match with only nine men as Vincent Koziello along with Plea picking up red cards within seconds.
A pretty big blow indeed for Nice, though they still have the second leg tie to play at home and do have important players such as Mario Balotelli and Wesley Sneijder potentially available for selection.
Meanwhile, Sevilla found themselves in an even better situation as the Spaniard picked up a 2-1 away victory over Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir with goals scored by Sergio Escudero and Wissam Ben Yedder.
The home team themselves were only able to pull one back through Eljero Elia midway into the second period, which might not be enough to stop their opponent as they play the second leg in Spain.
In other tie, Scottish champion, Celtic looked to be heading into the group stage already following their convincing 5-0 home victory against Astana.
