Manchester City and Real Madrid got their second straight group stage victories in this season’s Champions League campaign, while Liverpool found themselves struggling again in taking all three points after being held by Spartak Moscow.
Current Premier League leader Man City hosted Ukrainian side, Shakhtar Donetsk at Etihand stadium and Pep Guardiola’s men picked up an important 2-0 victory despite facing a resilient battle from their opponent.
After a goalless first 45 minutes, Guardiola’s boys finally got themselves in front soon after the break through Kevin De Bruyne’s effort before eventually sealing their victory late in the 90th minute from Raheem Sterling’s goal.
Meanwhile, two times defending champion, Real Madrid grabbed another victory as they swoop Borussia Dortmund 3-1 at Signal Iduna Park.
Playing away from home didn’t seem to trouble Los Blancos as they took the lead after 18 minutes of play through Gareth Bale’s effort.
Despite strong performance from Dortmund, Zinedine Zidane’s men were able to grab their second early in the second half thanks to their talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Pierre Aubameyang restored some hope for the home side with his effort, but Ronaldo once again showcasing his goal scoring prowess as he netted his team’s third to seal all three points on 79 minutes.
A rather disappointing result arrived for Liverpool as they found themselves scrambling for another point at Moscow.
Drawing their opening fixture against Sevilla, The Reds were forced to settle for a 1-1 result on their travel as they found themselves trailing after 23 minutes when Spartak scored through Fernando.
Fortunately for Jurgen Klopp’s men, they were able to equalize soon afterwards through their Brazilian star, Philippe Coutinho who made it 1-1 on 31 minutes.
No more goals were scored afterwards as both teams taking just two points so far from two group stages games in their Champions League campaign.
