Following up on his success in being named as FIFA Best Player not long ago, just as it was expected, Cristiano Ronaldo also won the Ballon d’Or award beating his rival, Lionel Messi.
Acquiring his fifth Ballon d’Or, Ronaldo still can’t hide his delight while adding that he has been waiting to get it for a while.
Albeit winning an individual recognition, CR7 doesn’t deny the fact that it was achieved due to his success in winning trophies at club level along with national team.
The Portugal international’s fifth Ballon d’Or also means that he now equaled Messi’s individual title, which certainly a massive thing for Ronaldo on personal level, knowing those two players rivalry in recent years.
Although the Real Madrid star stated that outside of the pitch he doesn’t consider Messi as a rival, but in footballing context it’s hard to deny that those two both are keen on being the best.
It will be interesting to see on whether they will still maintain their individual rivalry next season since so far both clubs doesn’t look that dominant in Europe.
Moreover, with World Cup 2018 on the cards in June, individual achievement might also depends a lot on who will put on an excellent display in that massive tournament.
