Madrid Grab Champions League Final Ticket Despite Defeat
Real Madrid secured another Champions League final showdown this season as they eliminated their city rival, Atletico Madrid.
Having a supposedly comfortably 3-0 advantage, things didn’t go easy for Los Blancos as they were made to suffer hard before eventually snatching that ticket to Cardiff.
Playing at Vicente Calderon, Madrid found themselves immediately under pressure by the home side as Atletico pushed forward vigorously.
The home team made things interesting after just 12 minutes as they opened the scoring through Saul Niguez.
Four minutes later, it was 2-0 for Diego Simeone’s men when Antoine Griezmann converted from the spot kick.
That 2-0 advantage for Los Rojiblanos created an exciting atmosphere indeed as one more goal would put the tie back in the balance.
However, things immediately went back into Madrid’s favor as three minutes before half time break they were able to pull one goal back through Isco.
That goal simply demoralized Atletico players as they now have to snatched three more goals in order to go through as even a 4-1 win wouldn’t cut it.
Naturally, it was a more comfortable second half for Madrid though they still couldn’t win on the night as Simeone’s men went on to maintain their slender victory on that game.
