The battle for top four seats in English Premier League still far from over, especially after Liverpool dropping some points on their latest fixture against city rival, Everton.
Playing the weekend tie with midweek Champions League tie on their mind, The Reds didn’t put on their best eleven, as Jurgen Klopp opted to rest some of his team’s important names.
That situation took away a bit of that importance from the derby, but it remain an intriguing tie as both sides were still keen on beating their opponent in such historical encounter.
Nevertheless, it was far from an easy battle for either teams to score goals, as they were struggling to break down each others’ defense, added with some fine goal keeping displays from both goalies, simply making things really difficult.
In the end, no goals were scored in that match as both sides were forced to settle for a rather disappointing goalless draw.
That result also puts Liverpool’s current third place standing under threat as Tottenham Hotspur have now equaled The Reds’ points, following Spurs’ 2-1 victory over Stoke City.
Having to play away from home didn’t stop Tottenham from taking the attacking that attacking initiative, especially knowing all three points will put them level on points at third place.
After a goalless first 45 minutes, Spurs finally got themselves in front through Christian Eriksen’s effort, which didn’t last too long as few minutes later Stoke equalized with a goal from Mame Diouf.
It also didn’t that long for Maurico Pochettino’s men to regain their advantage as on 63 minutes, Eriksen completed his double to give his side all three points which will open that race for second place seat.
