The long transfer saga that was coloring last summer’s market finally meet its end as Virgil Van Dijk is officially a Liverpool player as Jurgen Klopp’s side splashed out a club record fee to sign the defender from Southampton.
That transfer deal was announced by the Mersyeside based outfit via their official twitter page, stating that they have reached an agreement with the Saints for Van Dijk’s transfer.
Although there’s no official statement regarding the fee, but media in England are claiming that The Reds have splashed an enormous amount reaching 75 million Pounds to acquire the Dutch defender.
The player himself has also expressed his joy in joining Liverpool, revealing that he is proud to join one of the biggest clubs in world football.
Klopp’s side certainly hope that the addition of Van Dijk can somewhat solved Liverpool’s rather poor defensive play this season which have cost them many games up til now.
It will be interesting in seeing on whether the former Celtic player can really solved that glaring issue that The Reds are having at the back, or will nothing changed much at least for this current season.
As many often say, January transfer is not always the best time to make a deal since there’s less adaptation time for any new players.
