Serbia picked up a positive result on their opening group game in FIFA World Cup 2018 as they defeated Costa Rica 1-0.

Both teams were very determined in getting all three points as that result will opens up their shot in advancing into the knock out stage.

The Balkan side immediately took control of proceedings with their possession based game, but were having some problems in creating consistent goal scoring opportunities as they were too slow in their build up at times.

Costa Rica themselves were trying to play more on the counter and did create some problems early in the first half, but was also unable to break down Serbia’s defense.

Mladen Krstajic’s men finally got the breakthrough as their skipper Alexandre Kolarov strike a sublime left footed curling free kick on 56 minutes that beat Keylor Navas on the Concacaf side’s goal.

That goal forced Los Ticos to come out and attack their opponent, but it was far from an easy task for Oscar Ramirez’s men to get something out of that tie, especially since Serbia started to play more on the counter.

Despite both teams efforts, no more goals were scored until the final whistle was blown as that game ended in a slender lead for the Balkan outfit.
